Jerry Westlund, the owner of The Pony in Starkville, Miss., isn’t backing down from making his dislike for former Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze known.
After it was revealed that the strip club would be having a ‘Hugh Freeze Tribute Party’ this upcoming Saturday night, Westlund caught some heat for his idea to mock Freeze. He wanted to make it known that this is strictly retaliation, however.
Westlund discussed the decision behind the party with Dan Wolken of USA TODAY Sports.
“Hugh Freeze was a piece of work to me because he banned his players from coming to my clubs,” Westlund said. “He banned them from going to strip clubs. I’m like, I’m sorry at 18 years old you can serve your country. We can give you a gun and send you to a Godforsaken place like Afghanistan, but Hugh Freeze decided they weren’t mature enough to come to a strip club so as the ultimate hypocrite, it’s only appropriate we’d have the Hugh Freeze tribute party.”
Westlund is clearly not a fan of hypocrisy, which is exactly what he felt like Freeze’s actions were. He did want to make it known that his retaliation was only meant for Freeze, and not anyone else associated with Ole Miss.
He also took a jab at the decision making from the former Ole Miss coach.
“He was willing to go out there and attack people who come to my club,” Westlund added. “If you want to call an escort service, knock yourself out. You could have come to my club and gotten a lap dance and made a friend just as quick.”
If Freeze did in fact ban his players from visiting such places, maybe Westlund is justified in his response.
