Craig Steltz made his living off being a hard-hitting defensive back.
Now, the former LSU star is trying to hit the NFL hard.
According to the Advocate, Steltz is suing the NFL for traumatic brain injuries that he suffered in his career.
The report said that Steltz filed the lawsuit in New Orleans federal court and that he suffered from “sustained repetitive, traumatic sub-concussive and/or concussive head impacts” during his NFL career, which lasted from 2008-13.
The Louisiana native didn’t state any of his injuries in detail, but that he was seeking unspecified financial damages. Unfortunately for Steltz, he just missed out on the $1 billon settlement that covered approximately 20,000 former NFL players who stopped playing in July 2014. Steltz was cut from the Bears in August 2014.
Steltz was a key piece of the Tigers’ 2007 national championship squad. He led LSU in tackles and interceptions en route to consensus All-American honors.
In 6 NFL seasons, Steltz recorded 122 tackles, 3 fumbles, 1 sack and 1 interception. Most of Steltz’s NFL career was as a special teams ace.
