Stetson Bennett and his mother shared a special moment inside Lucas Oil Stadium late Monday night as Georgia celebrated the national championship win over Alabama.
His mother later tweeted “I love you to the moon and back❤️ GO DAWGS!” and the tweet received more than 1,200 likes, more than 70 retweets and more than 20 replies by early Tuesday afternoon.
Bennett may be most remembered for his connection with Adonai Mitchell on a 40-yard touchdown to give Georgia a 19-18 lead with 8:09 left and then found Brock Bowers for a 15-yard TD on a screen to put the Bulldogs up eight with 3:33 left.
Overall, Bennett finished the game 17-for-26 passing for 224 yards and 2 touchdowns. He had a net 8 carries for negative 24 yards, including a long run of 14 yards.
After his turnover that led to an Alabama touchdown, Bennett rebounded to complete all 3 of his passes for 68 yards, on the Mitchell scoring drive.
“You put as much time as we do in this thing, blood, sweat, tears,” Bennett said, ‘it means something.”
