Steve Sarkisian says he dropped headset, ‘played dad’ when son entered Texas game
Steve Sarkisian met the moment and reveled in it.
The Texas head coach took a brief break from being, well, the head coach, and instead turned into a dad when his son, Brady, entered in the late stages of Saturday night’s 56-7 blowout against UTSA. Brady Sarkisian plays linebacker for Texas, and after not playing at all last season after walking on as a freshman, the 6-foot-1, 230-pound Sarkisian finally got his chance for multiple plays late in the 4th quarter.
“When he got in tonight, I took my headset off and I played dad for about three plays,” Coach Sarkisian said late Saturday night. “I just watched my son play football at the University of Texas. That was really awesome.”
Brady Sarkisian arrived at Texas after a big-time high school career at Corona Del Mar in Newport Beach, Calif. Sarkisian was a linebacker and edge rusher and even played some tight end in high school. He had 33 tackles, 11 tackles-for-loss and 5 sacks as a high school senior.
If Texas keeps pounding opponents like it did on Saturday night, maybe Brady Sarkisian will get a few more opportunities for playing time — even if they don’t come until late in the 4th quarter.
