Steve Spurrier names surprising SEC player as his current Heisman frontrunner

Many people are debating whether Alabama’s Bryce Young or Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud should win the Heisman Trophy this season. However, Steve Spurrier believes another quarterback is the most deserving player to receive the honor at this point.
The former Florida and South Carolina coach shared his Heisman pick during an appearance on ESPN 98.1 WRUF in Gainesville on Tuesday, and the Head Ball Coach went a different route with his selection. Spurrier said that he would currently vote for Mississippi State QB Will Rogers.
Rogers hasn’t generated a ton of Heisman buzz, although he’s having a strong season for the Bulldogs. In 11 games, he has passed for 4,113 yards, 34 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. He’s already set the program’s single-season records for both passing yards and passing TDs.
“He’s a beautiful passer,” Spurrier said, per Scott Carter of FloridaGators.com.
Rogers’ best showing came against Auburn on Nov. 13, when he passed for 415 yards and 6 touchdowns while leading Mississippi State to victory.
Is it possible that enough Heisman voters will feel the same way as Spurrier and Rogers could be in the thick of the race? It seems more likely that the award will go to either Stroud or Young, but anything is possible.
