Steve Spurrier shared his thoughts on LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels’ dominating performance against the Gators along with the rising Heisman Trophy hype around Daniels.

Daniels shredded the Gators defense with 372 yards for 3 TDs on 17-26 passing, and he dominated on the ground with 234 yards for 2 TDs on 12 carries. The Tigers rolled to a 52-35 victory over the Gators because of Daniels’ dominance after coming back from an injury.

“Yeah, I think we were all hoping that he might need to take 1 more week off and come back next week, but he was ready to go,” Spurrier quipped on the Another Dooley Noted Podcast on Monday. “He is a fantastic runner. He might be the best running quarterback there’s ever been in college football.”

“And a lot of people got to see that game on TV because it was a night game,” Spurrier added. “So wasn’t a whole lot of competition, so it might have won a Heisman Trophy for him.”

Washington QB Michael Penix arguably could have an edge because of the Huskies’ unbeaten record while LSU has three losses. However, podcast host Pat Dooley mentioned to Spurrier that none of LSU’s losses were because of Daniels. Daniels is 3rd behind Penix and Oregon’s Bo Nix in Heisman betting odds.

“Yeah, they’re not as good defensively,” Spurrier acknowledged about LSU.
