Fran Brown arrived to turn around Syracuse last season, and he produced some instant results behind a high-flying passing attack. Unfortunately, the Orange are reportedly expected to lose a top piece of that attack to the transfer portal.
On Tuesday, Matt Zenitz with CBS Sports/247 Sports reported that All-ACC wide receiver Trebor Pena is expected to enter the transfer portal when things open on Wednesday. Pena produced an up-and-down career with the Orange since 2020, but he produced a breakout season with Kyle McCord in 2024.
Last season, Pena led the ACC with 84 catches, a mark that tied for 13th most in the entire country. He was also 2nd on Syracuse with 941 receiving yards and led the team with 9 receiving touchdowns, a mark that tied for the 2nd-most in the ACC last season.
In addition to his work as a receiver, Pena has over 2,700 all-purpose yards as a returner. In 2024, he was Syracuse’s top punt returner with 15 returns for 120 yards, good for an 8-yard average.
The spring transfer portal window has not always yielded many opportunities for teams to grab a game-changer, but that appears to be changing this season. Pena will be a plug-and-play option for whichever program he chooses, provided he does indeed leave Syracuse.
