TCU coaching search: Group of 5 head coach is the target, per report

TCU is in the market for a new head football coach for the 1st time in over 2 decades after Gary Patterson and the program parted ways on Sunday. And the university has apparently already identified a primary target to fill the vacancy.
According to CBS Sports’ Dennis Dodd, it’s SMU head coach Sonny Dykes:
Sources: Sonny Dykes seems to be TCU’s top target. Today’s agreement could be a reaction to the Matt Wells firing in order to get in line for the same candidate(s).

Dykes led the No. 23-ranked Mustangs to a 7-0 start before they fell to Houston on Saturday. He is 29-15 overall with a 17-10 mark in the AAC, with the team sitting in 3rd in the conference standings following their loss.
Of course, another Texas-based program is possibly eyeing Dykes, and that’s Texas Tech, who dismissed Matt Wells after going 13-17 since his hiring in 2019. Dykes’ father, Spike, led the Red Raiders for 13 seasons.
