Tennessee has lost one member of its defense for the season and another one until at least the Volunteers’ bowl game.
Freshman defensive end Kyle Phillips will have shoulder surgery, and will miss the rest of the season. Tennessee coach Butch Jones said Phillips sustained the injury during the Volunteers’ win over South Carolina last Saturday.
Phillips had eight tackles and one sack this season.
Jones also said that senior linebacker/defensive end Curt Maggitt would probably miss the rest of the regular season, but could be healthy in time to play in a bowl game. Maggitt has a hip injury, and recently had an MRI.
It’s the latest setback for Maggitt, who missed some of the 2012 season and all of the 2013 season with a knee injury.
Three offensive players are also ailing. Jones said offensive guard Jashon Robertson is doubtful for Saturday’s game with an ankle injury. Fellow offensive lineman Brett Kendrick, who is recovering from a knee injury, practiced on Monday with a knee injury, while wide receiver Marquez North, who is battling a leg injury, is “day-to-day.”
