Tennessee freshman wide receiver Vincent Perry was ruled academically ineligible this afternoon. Perry will remain on the team.

The 5-foot-10 pass-catcher is a redshirt freshman out of Nashville, Tenn. Perry was a redshirt in 2015 after injuring his knee in training camp.

Perry is listed as a wide receiver on the team’s official depth chart, but was a dynamic running back in high school, running for over 1,200 yards and 18 touchdowns as a senior. Perry may be out for 2016, but has the chance to return to the field as a Volunteer with his scholarship in the future.
Perry will have a chance to earn his scholarship back based on performance on and off the field, UT spokesman Ryan Robinson said
