It’s summer camp season for college football teams around the country and it made Friday a big recruiting day. The commitments rolled in around the SEC at Ole Miss, Auburn, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, South Carolina, Florida and Tennessee.

UT’s first Friday commit came from Javontez Spraggins, East St. Louis, Illinois offensive guard whose recruiting rankings were unlikely to excite the Vol fanbase. It turned out to only be the appetizer. Later Friday night, another East St. Louis player committed to Tennessee: 4-star safety Antonio Johnson.

Listed at 6-2, 179 pounds, Johnson is rated the No. 3 Illinois product, No. 11 safety and No. 161 prospect overall nationally on the 247Sports Composite. His 24 scholarship offers include Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi State, Missouri, Ole Miss and Texas A&M.

Johnson’s commitment gives Tennessee a boost in the Composite team recruiting rankings, bumping the 2020 class to No. 9 in the SEC and No. 25 nationally. Check out Johnson’s highlights and announcement (via Twitter) below:
