Running back Lyn-J Dixon has left the Tennessee football program, after a short 18 days with the Vols.
Dixon is quite familiar with the transfer portal, with Tennessee being the third program he has departed from since the end of the 2021 season, per 247Sports.
“It would be the same as it was 14 days ago,” offensive coordinator Alex Golesh said on Tuesday when asked about Dixon’s departure. “So, we’ve got who we got. We’re excited about who we’ve got.”
Dixon’s untimely exit was made aware by a Tennessee spokesperson on Sunday.
Although Dixon leaving hurts Tennessee’s depth, there are other players that have gained more attention in camp, per Golesh. Running backs Jaylen Wright, Dylan Sampson and Justin-Williams Thomas are a few that were on Golesh’s radar to watch as this season progresses.
Golesh provided more insight into these players and how they will benefit the Vols squad moving forward.
Golesh said losing RB Lyn-J Dixon hurts UT’s depth but puts the Vols where they were at the start of camp. He said RB Jaylen Wright (quad) returned full speed Tuesday for the first time in weeks and that freshmen RBs Dylan Sampson and Justin Williams-Thomas have done well in camp

Tennessee hopes to replace Dixon’s tempo and style with its 4 scholarship running backs as the Vols prepare to take on Ball State for the season opener on Thursday, Sept. 1.
