Tennessee is losing a pair of players to the transfer portal prior to its bowl game.

According to On3’s Matt Zenitz, running backs Len’Neth Whitehead and Justin Williams-Thomas are set to be among the Vols players who enter the transfer portal. Both players were used as rotational players behind the combination of Jabari Small and Jaylen Wright.

Whitehead, a 2020 4-star recruit from Athens, Georgia., ran for 207 yards in 2021 but missed this season because of an injury. He will have 3 years of eligibility remaining at his next location.

Williams-Thomas, a 2022 4-star prospect from East Paulding High School in Dallas, Georgia., rushed for 37 yards on 11 carries, and averaged 3.4 yards per run. His best game this season came against Akron, where he totaled 5 carries for 22 yards. William-Thomas chose Tennessee over several other SEC programs, including Auburn.

The Volunteers had 1 of college football’s more dynamic offenses thanks to their ability to move the sticks on the ground. Wright finished with a team-high 786 yards on 135 carries and scored 10 touchdowns. Small, a junior from Memphis, Tennessee, tallied a team-high 12 touchdowns off 144 carries and rushed for 696 yards.

Quarterback Hendon Hooker finished 3rd in rushing with 430 yards and 5 TDs. The No. 7 Vols led the nation in rushing touchdowns with 39. They ranked 18th nationally in rushing offense, averaging 205.7 yards per game.

Tennessee is currently awaiting its bowl assignment following a 10-2 season.
