Tennessee unveiled the newest look in its Smokey Grey uniform series on Saturday.

The alternate uniforms for the upcoming 2024 season feature multiple nods to the Tennessee state flag, a tonal design on the helmet that mimics the Great Smoky Mountains, and the “Tennessee” wordmark across the chest of a home jersey for the first time ever.

Last year, the Vols donned “Artful Dodger” uniforms that paid homage to legendary Condredge Holloway. This year, the design draws its inspiration from the Tennessee Tri-Star state emblem and is being called “The Volunteer State” uniforms. The refreshed look is touted as an ode to the state and Tennessee’s status as the flagship university.

The helmet stripe is pulled directly off the state flag and color-changed to match the Volunteers’ branding. The Tri-Star emblem appears as a patch on the shoulders of the uniform. The striping down the pant legs also features 3 stars.

The “Tennessee” wordmark also appears across the chest of the jersey, which UT says is the first time in school history the state name will appear on the front of a home jersey.

The helmet once again features the orange Power T and a mountain design in shades of grey that pays tribute to Tennessee’s famous Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The update comes in the form of the striping running down the middle of the helmet. On the back of the helmet, 3 stars appear inside the stripe.

Tennessee first donned the Smokey Greys in 2015 against Georgia. They made their return in a 2022 win over LSU. Last year, the “Artful Dodger” uniforms were worn in the home opener against Austin Peay.

Merchandise tied into this year’s version of the Smokey Grey uniform will be made available in late July and early August, according to a release from the school.

Tennessee begins its season at home against Chattanooga on Aug. 31. FanDuel has an early line for that game that favors Tennessee by 41.5 points. Throughout the season, UT will also welcome Kent State, Florida, Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi State, and UTEP to Neyland Stadium.

With quarterback Nico Iamaleava stepping into a full-time starting role, excitement is high for Tennessee in 2024. The Vols’ win total is set at 8.5 by FanDuel. Tennessee is +1800 to win the SEC next season. Want to bet on the Vols in 2024? Get signed up with one of these Tennessee sports betting promos.
