Tennessee’s trend of starting late continues against Texas A&M

Tennessee continued its trend of starting late and rallying during its 45-38 double overtime loss to Texas A&M Saturday. The Vols trailed early and faced a 21-point deficit before tying the game late in the fourth quarter and forcing overtime.
Knoxville sports radio personality Vince Ferrara provided a breakdown of Tennessee’s point differential by quarters during the 2016 season Sunday.
Point differential for Tennessee this season by quarters:
1st: -45
2nd: +5
3rd: +21
4th: +62

As expected, the Vols hold a sizable scoring advantage in the third and fourth quarters. Tennessee has outscored its opponents by a 62-point margin in the fourth quarter and 21 points in the third.
But the glaring flaw is the 45-point disadvantage in the first quarter, which has forced the Vols to rally from behind in most of their games this season.
Tennessee evened its overtime scoring margin during Saturday’s loss. The 7-point margin matched the Vols’ Week 1 win in OT against Appalachian State.
