Texas announced a tweak to its football schedule for this fall involving one of its non-conference games.
Chris Del Conte, Texas’s athletic director, announced in his weekly newsletter that the Longhorns’ home game against Sam Houston will be moved up a week to Sept. 20 in Austin. The showdown between Lone Star State schools was originally scheduled for Sept. 27.
So now Texas will close out its non-conference schedule with that game against Sam Houston. The Longhorns’ non-conference schedule also includes a titanic season-opening road game at Ohio State on Aug. 30, which will be a rematch of last season’s College Football Playoff semifinal thriller. The non-conference schedule also includes home games against San Jose State on Sept. 6 and UTEP on Sept. 13.
After the non-conference schedule concludes, Texas will have a bye week before opening SEC play with a showdown at Florida on Oct. 4.
The 2025 season will be as highly anticipated a campaign as Texas has had in a long time, and that’s because of one player. That player is quarterback Arch Manning, who will take over as the starting quarterback after sitting behind Quinn Ewers. The hype is already building in Austin and around college football as the latest Manning gets ready to take center stage in the college football world.
