Texas athletics director Chris Del Conte has confidence in his head coach heading into the college football season.
Del Conte joined College Sports on SiriusXM Wednesday morning to explain what about Steve Sarkisian gives him confidence.
De Conte explained how when he hired Sarkisian, he looked at his track record and ability to build programs up like he did at Washington and USC.
“I knew exactly what we were getting and who we were getting,” Del Conte said.
He also detailed how Sarkisian had a limited roster when he first got to Texas, but he was able to work with what he had and have a successful first year. Now, with some much needed time to build up his roster, Sarkisian is due to have a big year.
Ultimately, what makes Sarkisian such a great coach of the Longhorns is that he understand what makes Texas what it is.
“Texas will never be an underdog going into anything,” Del Conte said. “You have to embrace who we are, infuse that into our student athletes and into our fanbase, and understand this is the expectation. And he understands how to really live and survive in that world.”
