The transfer portal is still turning this spring, and Texas A&M is reportedly losing a former highly-rated prospect to the portal this session.
According to Matt Zenitz with CBS Sports/247 Sports, wide receiver Ernest Campbell is looking to the portal after one season in the program. Campbell was a 4-star recruit in the first recruiting class for Mike Elko, joining the program as an in-state piece out of Refugio High School.
Campbell redshirted as a true freshman but did appear in one game as a special-teams performer.
Campbell was a dual-sport performer in high school, taking home Texas state titles in the 100-meter dash. The 5-foot-9 and 145-pound prospect saw his elite skill set used in a variety of ways in high school offensively but was unable to crack the depth chart as a true freshman.
The speedster also received offers from Nebraska, Baylor, Texas Tech and others in high school, so it will be interesting to see where he winds up for the 2025 season and beyond. Campbell is the 26th Aggie to hit the portal this offseason, but Elko and his staff have also been working hard on the incoming group.
So far, A&M has received 14 transfer commitments for a group that ranks 11th nationally per 247 Sports. That group contained an emphasis on wide receiver with 4 WRs joining the fold, including former NC State star KC Concepcion.
