Texas A&M entered this year’s college baseball season as the preseason No. 1 team and all the expectations that come with that. In spite of that, the Aggies have now lost back-to-back games after starting the season 5-0.

Over the weekend, Texas A&M took the first 2 games of a series against Cal Poly before losing the finale, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon. On Tuesday night, the Aggies faced Texas State in a midweek contest and were stunned as the Bobcats controlled the majority of the game in a 7-3 win.

A 5-run 3rd inning by Texas State fueled the upset while it was another stagnant night for the Texas A&M bats. The Aggies were just 7-for-33 at the plate with 12 strikeouts in defeat. A&M would tack on a lone run in the 9th inning but was otherwise quieted after scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st.

It adds to what is a rough week for the Aggies. In addition to the 2 losses, it was reported on Monday that infielder Gavin Grahovac will undergo shoulder surgery and miss the rest of the 2025 season. That is a big blow for a program looking to return to the College World Series in Omaha after a runner-up finish last year.

Texas A&M heads to weekend classic

Across their first 7 games, the Aggies have not played a game against a team from a power conference. That will change this weekend when Texas A&M heads to Houston to take part in the Astros Foundation College Classic.

From Friday through Sunday, the Aggies will get games against Arizona, Oklahoma State and Rice while playing at Daikin Park. And a major key to watch will be how the offense responds after 3 straight games without a big output.

In the past 3 games, Texas A&M has not eclipsed 4 runs in any contest with a run differential of -4. The Aggies also have double-digit strikeouts in 2 of those games.

We’ll find out if the bats can rebound in Houston.
