Texas A&M has appeared to put its tumultuous past with Texas aside, as its board of regents recently advised interim President Mark A. Welsh III to form an exploratory committee to study and recommend ways to recognize and commemorate the return of the school’s rivalry with the Longhorns.

The two programs have not squared off in 12 years, with UT coming out on top in the last matchup by a score of 27-25 in College Station thanks to a game-winning field goal from current Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker. While there have frequently been rumors surrounding the rivalry’s renewal, they have generally been beaten back by either program’s athletic department, in large part because of TAMU’s departure to join the SEC in 2012.

“I look forward to seeing what the students, staff, faculty, and former students on this committee come up with,” Welsh said. “After being dormant for 12 years, I know Aggies and Longhorns all over the world are ready to rekindle the passion, camaraderie, and competitive spirit that has defined this rivalry game in the past. It will be great to have the ‘Horns back in Aggieland next Fall. It will be even better to “Saw ‘Em Off!”

Texas leads the all-time series between the programs 76-37-5.
