Texas A&M (5-2, 2-2) reached as high as No. 6 in the Associated Press Top 25 after winning the first five games of the season.
Now the Aggies, which travel to Tuscaloosa to play Alabama next Saturday, are in danger of dropping out of the rankings altogether with a third consecutive loss.
A&M lost to No. 3 Ole Miss at home, 35-20, on Saturday, falling from No. 14 in both polls to No. 21, where the team ranked in the preseason AP poll.
As a consolation, the Aggies have lost to two teams in the top three, including No. 1 Mississippi State. If Texas A&M can beat AP No. 7 Alabama on Saturday, it surely will jump back into the Top 20.
There are four SEC West teams ranked in the top seven of the AP Poll. Only LSU and Arkansas, which A&M beat in overtime, are not ranked in the division.
