Texas high school athlete stabs father because he was tired of playing football
A prep football player from Sugar Land, Texas is in police custody after allegedly stabbing his father multiple times during an argument centered around the decision to quit his school’s football team.
News station KHOU out of Houston is reporting that the player at Clements High School skipped practice before telling his father he was tired of playing football. The choice led to an argument and eventually resulted in the player wielding a knife and stabbing his parent.
A police spokesman told KHOU the relationship between son and father had soured due to football:
There’s definitely quite a bit of tension, a lot of conflict between the boy and his father. The son admitted that he had been skipping football practices and told his father he intended to quit the team.
The player’s father is in stable condition. The 16-year-old has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
