College football insider suggests Texas and Oklahoma could play in the SEC as soon as 2022
Don’t be shocked if Texas and Oklahoma are in the SEC sooner than expected.
That’s the opinion of college football insider Brett McMurphy of Stadium, who was recently a guest on Birmingham-based WJOX 94.5 FM radio show McElroy & Cubelic in the Morning.
During his appearance on the show, McMurphy pushed back on the idea that Texas and Oklahoma would remain in the Big 12 for the remainder of the league’s current television contract, which expires at the end of 2025.
“I think the goal of Texas and Oklahoma, and the SEC, is to have this in place in 2022,” McMurphy said on the show. “And, you know, we’ve seen this in other schools when they leave conferences – it happened with Maryland to the Big 10 – they have grant of rights. The lawyers will get together and they’ll come up with a settlement. I don’t think you make this decision to move to a conference and then spend four more years in that conference. That’s not good for anybody.
“So I think you know, the lawyers are going to make a lot of money, but I think ultimately they come to an agreement if that decision is made, and I think it will be made, and I would expect Oklahoma, Texas to be in the SEC in 2022.”
McMurphy has really been making the rounds on Friday as the insider offered up additional details regarding Texas A&M’s level of knowledge regarding the potential of SEC expansion.
.@Brett_McMurphy tells @1010XL: “Texas A&M being kept out of the loop is absolutely 100 percent inaccurate. Multiple #SEC sources told me all university presidents had been part of the process all along. Anything else is 1,000 percent false.” #GigEm
