Texas quarterback Casey Thompson may be on his way out of Austin.

Thompson, who started 10 games in 2021, has entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to a report by Chip Brown of 247Sports.

Thompson is apparently set to leave the Longhorns program after top Ohio State transfer Quinn Ewers announced his commitment to Texas. Ewers skipped his high school senior season in 2021 and enrolled at Ohio State; however, he elected to transfer back to Texas. He was widely considered one of the nation’s top high school quarterbacks.

Thompson took over for initial starter Hudson Card, who started the first 2 games, and the Longhorns quarterback led the Big 12 in touchdown passes with 24. He also added 55 carries for 157 yards and 4 touchdowns on the ground.

It’s important to remember that just because a player enters the NCAA transfer portal doesn’t mean that he will end up leaving; however, it usually ends up that way.

Thompson became Texas’ 12th player to enter the transfer portal since early December.
