Texas will host one of the top available players in the transfer portal on a visit this week, according to a report.

Per 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz, former Syracuse defensive lineman Maraad Watson is expected to be in Austin on Tuesday. Per 247Sports, Watson is the top-ranked uncommitted player in the transfer portal at this stage of the offseason.

Watson was a freshman All-American last season after breakout out as a big-time player on Syracuse’s defense. He started 11 games for the Orange, totaling 31 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 1 sack and 1 pass deflection.

Watson went under-recruited as a high school prospect. A New Jersey native, Watson was the No. 1,212 player in the country for the class of 2024, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

Interior defensive linemen are always highly-coveted, but that’s especially the case during the spring transfer window when so many SEC teams are looking for depth at that position. If Texas is able to land Watson, it would be getting one of the best available transfers at a position of need.

Watson will have 3 years of eligibility remaining at his next destination.
