SMU earned the Iron Skillet by taking down arch-rivals TCU 66-42 on Saturday, and after the Horned Frogs had poked fun at the game being broadcast on the CW earlier in the week, the network got the last laugh.
TCU had put out a video earlier in the week in the style of classic ESPN “This is SportsCenter” ads. The clip showed a uniformed player walking around the TCU football office before being put on hold with the tune of Paula Cole’s “I Don’t Want to Wait” being played.
“This is SportsCenter,” the video read on screen. “Well… This is CW unfortunately. Thanks ACC.”
The Horned Frogs were clearly not too pleased with being on that broadcast channel.
But, with the Mustangs claiming a comfortable win in the rivalry series, the CW was able to fire back, utilizing the same song, the theme from the network’s Dawson’s Creek, over a video that shows the final score of the game.

The comments of the post are filled with people respecting the CW’s clapback and complimenting the network on its coverage, as it has now entered the realm of mainstream football streaming thanks to its affiliations with the Mountain West and Atlantic Coast Conferences.
It’s doubtful that many other social media teams will come after the network in the future.
