After the opening weekend of college football, three SEC teams rank among the top five in total defense in the nation.

Mississippi State, directed by new coordinator Todd Grantham, currently ranks No. 1 after giving up only 33 yards (18 rushing, 15 passing) to Charleston Southern on Saturday. No team in college football gave up fewer yards.

Auburn comes in at No. 3 after allowing a total of 78 yards — and just eight through the air.

LSU ranks No. 5 in total defense with 97 yards allowed. It gave up 102 yards through the air but held BYU to -5 on the ground.

The Bayou Bengals, along with SEC West foe Mississippi State, are one of eight teams in college football that allowed zero points in Week 1 to be tied for No. 1 in scoring defense.

TCU is another of those teams to shut out its opponent. The Horned Frogs also rank No. 2 in total defense after allowing just 65 yards to Jackson State.

Arkansas will host TCU on Saturday afternoon in Fayetteville.
