We’ve all done the movie marathon thing or binge-watched a TV show. You spend an obscene amount of hours sitting on the couch and not doing anything else. You don’t take the time to even cook yourself a meal. You don’t go outside. You probably don’t even see the light of the sun.
You just watch.
By the wonders of football game scheduling, we have an opportunity to partake in something similar in the next few days, with a full slate of college football bowl games. Thursday through Saturday there are going to be up to five great bowl games most days that you probably won’t want to miss.
So how should you prepare yourself for a long day of watching football? Here are a few tips to get you started:
1. Get your caffeine lined up: Make sure you start your marathon day off right with a cup or two of something that will wake you up. Even if the only distance you’ll be traveling is from your kitchen to your living room, your daily dose of caffeine will prevent you from feeling sluggish or worse later on. It’s going to be a long day, so get a good start.
2. Have your snacks ready before the games start: You are about to sink many hours into watching football and you will get hungry during. Plan ahead by getting all possible snacks ready before the games start. You can even put them within arm’s reach, so when you do start feeling peckish you don’t even need to get out of the chair.
3. For meals, get food delivered or use halftime to heat up something frozen: Or you could spend your time making something and risk missing the play of the game. It’s your call. No-brainer.
4. Wear comfortable clothing: It will make lounging on your couch for 10-plus hours that much easier. So break out the university-logo sweatpants, because jeans won’t cut it for this marathon.
5. Remember to take stretch breaks: Yes, part of the greatness of any sort of marathon involving your TV is the idea that you will spend a vast majority of your day not moving. However, sitting on your behind for too long may actually become uncomfortable if you don’t take some short walks periodically throughout the day. Every once in a while, use a commercial break to stretch your legs. Your gluteus maximus will thank you.
6. Have Twitter close at hand: If you’re like me, you have opinions during the course of a football game. On bowl-game marathon day, there’s a high chance that you will see many things that you will have an opinion about, whether it’s a bad call, the thrill of victory, or an amazing catch Make sure you make your voice heard as soon as it happens by having something that’s connected to Twitter close at hand.
