TJ Finley reveals he ‘questioned’ himself after Auburn added QBs to roster

The Auburn quarterbacks room has been among the most questionable in the nation since the departure of Bo Nix to Oregon and there’s been an ongoing competition for the starting gig between Zach Calzada and TJ Finley up until just days ago, when the latter quarterback was given the title of “starter.”

It wasn’t an easy road for Finley who had ups and downs at LSU before transferring to Auburn and experiencing some more of the same even after a change of scenery.

Around the same time Nix departed, Auburn introduced transfer portal quarterbacks Zach Calzada and Robby Ashford to the mix. Like it would just about any other quarterback, the additions made Finley a bit nervous.

“When those guys came in I kind of questioned myself, like, ‘Do I want to play football anymore?,” Finley said in a report from Bennett Durando of The Montgomery Advertiser.

There’s no doubt Finley has found something of a spark now that the reins are his and that it’s public that it’s his job to lose.

Finley appeared in nine games last season, completing 54.7% of his passes for 827 yards with six touchdowns and one interception. Those numbers, specifically in regard to his completion rate, are ones he will look to improve as the season looms near.
