Tommy Bowden, former SEC assistant, and son of FSU legendary coach Bobby Bowden, was asked about the upcoming Chic-fil-A Kickoff Game between Alabama and FSU.

During a recent radio interview with WNSP Sports Radio 105.5 FM, Bowden shared his belief that fans are in store for a big contest, and he says that both Deondre Francois and Jalen Hurts will have a big impact on the outcome.

Mark Heim with AL.com shared Bowden’s quotes from the interview.

“A big game like this, it’s going to come down to quarterbacks,” Bowden said on the air. “I think it will come down to – in critical situations – when the ball’s in their hands who performs the best and makes the least amount of mistakes.”

Hurts and Francois are both entering their sophomore seasons after starting as freshmen in 2016. Both are dynamic play makers, but Bowden does see a slight edge in the QB match up.

“Jalen Hurts is not as good a passer as Deondre Francois,” Bowden continued. “But, if they can run it without putting the burden on his shoulders, the advantage goes to Alabama.”

Bowden believes the best chance for the Seminoles is to put pressure on Alabama with a downfield passing game. Nevertheless, he does see FSU playing the role of underdog and believes that the Tide will come away with the victory.

“Florida State’s talented enough to win,” he said. “I do think they’ll be underdogs. Both teams play as well as they can, Alabama wins.”
