UCLA made huge news on Sunday when the school announced that coach DeShaun Foster was being relieved of his duties as the head football coach for the Bruins.
The Bruins will be looking to bring in a new coach, and former Notre Dame and Alabama offensive coordinator and current Cleveland Brown OC Tommy Rees was listed as a candidate for the job by ESPN.
Rees with his offensive background is an intriguing candidate for the Bruins.
He was born in Los Angeles and has ties to the UCLA program through his father, Bill, a Bruins assistant from 1979 to 1994 under Terry Donahue. Tommy Rees has quickly risen up the coaching ranks, earning offensive coordinator titles at Notre Dame, where he played quarterback, as well as Alabama and now the NFL’s Cleveland Browns. Just 33, Rees was a strong candidate for North Carolina’s head-coaching vacancy this past offseason and likely will be leading his own team in the near future.
At only 33 years old, Rees has been a candidate for other jobs the last couple of seasons. He was in the running for the North Carolina job this season before the school decided to bring in Bill Belichick.
With Rees, it feels like it is only a matter of time before he becomes a college coach. For him, it is going to be all about finding the one that makes the most sense for him.
