One game into his senior season, and Cam Akers is already stuffing the statsheets.

Akers (5-foot-11, 215 pounds) is a five-star prospect and the No. 2 running back from the recruiting class of 2017, though he plays quarterback for Clinton High School in Mississippi. With 22 scholarship offers — including Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Vanderbilt — the U.S. Army All-American is well on his way to a landing with an elite college football program.

Especially after last night’s performance, where he completed 14-of-22 passes (63.6 percent) for 272 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 180 yards and two scores on 17 carries.

Akers led Clinton to a 36-28 win over South Panola — the first time its won this series in 16 years. He left his teammates in awe.

“This feels amazing,” said Clinton wide receiver Kam White, according to The Clarion-Ledger. “You could feel the vibrations from the locker room before the game. With Cam, we have the number one player in Mississippi and he might be the number one player in the country. We can’t be nothing but grateful to have him on our team.”

247Sports says there’s currently a 52 percent chance Akers ends up with the Buckeyes, but that Ole Miss and Mississippi State are still in the running.
