The nation’s No. 1 safety prospect, Brandon Jones (Nacogdoches, Texas), committed to Texas over Texas A&M and Baylor on Wednesday during a live announcement on ESPNU.
It was quite a recruiting win for Charlie Strong and the Longhorns, who figure to have a big national signing day momentum-wise (expect Texas to land several more prospects today). The Aggies had held a lead for the four-star Jones for a big chunk of the process, but in the end lost him to their in-state rivals, who had been trending in Jones’ recruitment for several weeks now.
Jones is an outstanding safety prospect with excellent size and ball skills who can make an impact for Texas from the get-go.
The 5-foot-11, 193-pound Under Armour All-American is No. 1 safety prospect in the 2016 recruiting cycle (No. 40 overall) per 247Sports Composite rankings.
