Trevor Etienne, Gunner Stockton shared cool moment before Georgia QB’s first snap

Trevor Etienne battled sore ribs on Saturday in the SEC Championship Game against Texas. The star running back had missed a few games with the injury, but he donned a kevlar vest in order to play on Saturday afternoon.

And he was every bit the running back Georgia expected this season, rushing for 94 yards and 2 absolutely critical touchdowns.

But he was also key to the team as a leader. Starting QB Carson Beck was injured on the final play of the first half and wasn’t able to return to the game until the final play in overtime (Etienne’s game-winning score).

Backup QB Gunner Stockton took over starting in the third quarter, and as you can see below, Etienne made a small gesture toward Stockton before their first snap:

It wasn’t much, but Etienne letting the young QB know he had his back probably meant a lot to Stockton.

Stockton threw 1 bad interception in the second half, but otherwise played well. He led a couple of Georgia scoring drives, including on the drive pictured above (another Etienne TD run).

All in all, Stockton completed 12 of his 16 passes for 71 yards and the 1 interception. He also made an impact as a runner, rushing 8 times for 8 yards (remember that sacks count as negative rushing yards in college).

Now Georgia will anxiously await news on Beck. If Stockton does have to play moving forward, however, he has a believer in Etienne.
