Trey Knox embraces playing in the shadow of star wide receiver Xavier Legette.
The 6-foot-3 senior wideout has 27 receptions for 556 yards and 3 TDs in 4 games this season. Legette averages 20.6 yards whenever he touches the ball.
“I mean what he’s doing right now is ‘nutty’ … but, I mean, it’s not surprising to anybody,” Knox told reporters on Tuesday. “Dude works his butt off day in and day out. Practices the right way. Takes care of his body and just always in the film room, so there’s no surprise to anybody that he works harder than anybody I’ve ever seen.”
NFL scouts have taken notice. The Draft Network projects Leggette as a late first-round pick.
Legette has been with the Gamecocks (2-2) since 2019 as a true freshman out of Mullins, South Carolina. He has gradually improved with this year as breakout year.
His numbers this fall surpassed all of his previous season highs of the past 4 years except for TDs. Legette can pass 3 TDs in a season for the first time in his career on Saturday when the Gamecocks visit No. 21 Tennessee (3-1).
It will be the 3rd ranked team Legette has played against this season, and plenty more remain around the corner in SEC play.
