As you might expect, the reaction to coach Mark Richt’s decision to start QB Faton Bauta against Florida has been met with a slew of tweets. Some good. Some bad. Some that were just plain weird.
The Good
"Report: Faton Bauta Will Start at QB for UGA" via @TeamStream we have a shakeup https://t.co/aFDS8VI05W

Faton Bauta may be considered the 3rd string QB, but, as @RadiNabulsi reminded me last night, Nick Chubb was the 4th string RB to start 2014

The Bad
So Mark Richt is going to start a dude named Faton Bauta at QB vs. UF? Bauta hasn't played a meaningful down since HS in 2011. (cont…)

Here we go! Why we didn't play him against Alabama when we were losing so bad is a mystery to me. Can't wait to… https://t.co/yG4mDwMgqk

Who is Faton Bauta? Well, he has completed 3 more passes & thrown for 2 less yards than Todd Gurley. Lets find out. pic.twitter.com/QXsRGtXMD7

It’s hard to fault Richt for wanting to make a change behind center as QB Greyson Lambert has fallen on hard times as of late, despite a 76% completion for the month of September. Since then the Virginia transfer has dropped 12 points on his completion percentage with the Bulldogs losing two of their last three to open October. After seven touchdowns with no picks in his first four games, Lambert has thrown just two touchdowns with two interceptions in the three games since.
Though Bauta sits all the way at the bottom of the Bulldogs’ quarterback depth chart, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to Bulldogs fans that Richt elected to skip second-stringer Brice Ramsey and go straight for the unproven junior. In his first, and really only moment to take the starting quarterback job for himself, Ramsey went 1-6 in the fourth quarter against Alabama, throwing for just 20 yards and two interceptions.
While Richt may know what he has with Lambert and Ramsey, and it’s not much, Bauta has thrown just five passes in his Georgia career.
Maybe he’s the superstar the coach never knew he had.
