Tyrann Mathieu, LSU band get New Orleans Saints fans fired up vs. Tampa Bay

Tyrann Mathieu is about as Louisiana as they come. He’s a wild child of New Orleans and a pinnacle of football found in the Bayou State.
Mathieu, who elected to return home and play for the New Orleans Saints, made his long-awaited debut in the Superdome on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Not only was he in attendance, but the LSU marching band made the trip over from Baton Rouge to kick off the home-opener in stellar fashion.
While music roared, so did fans. And when Mathieu took the field, he made sure the city was popping and ready to go against Tom Brady and the NFC South rival.

Mathieu played 2 seasons at LSU before being dismissed from the program in 2012. In 2011, the 5-9, 190-pound defensive back totaled 59 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 9 pass deflections, and 2 interceptions. He also averaged 15.6 yards per punt return and scored a pair of touchdowns.

For his efforts, Mathieu finished 5th in Heisman voting that season. He’d be selected in the 3rd round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals after electing to sit out the 2012 season.
Mathieu was one of 2 former LSU players added to the Saints’ roster this offseason. Wide receiver Jarvis Landry also elected to return close to home following his release from the Cleveland Browns. Landry spent 3 seasons with the Tigers and recorded 137 catches for 1,809 yards and 15 touchdowns.
