UGA WR Shakenneth Williams applies for medical disqualification

It appears that Shakenneth Williams’ time playing football may be over.
Kirby Smart announced Monday that the senior UGA WR has applied for a medical disqualification.
“Shakenneth (Williams) has applied for a medical exemption,” Smart announced during his press conference. “We think we’ll get that back any day now.”
When a player applies for a medical disqualification, it would still allow him to stay on scholarship, but it won’t be counted against the NCAA’s limit of 85.
Williams came to UGA as a 4-star recruit in the class of 2014. He showed flashes during his early career but could never achieve consistent playing time. He caught three passes for 61 yards during his freshman season, but he’s managed just one catch in the last two seasons.
He spent this past spring as a student coach due to injuries.
It is always tough to see an injured player surrender their goals, but the medical disqualification will provide UGA flexibility in terms of scholarships needed.
