Towles beat out four-star freshman Drew Barker, former starter Maxwell Smith and redshirt freshman Reese Phillips to assume the Wildcats’ starting job.
Towles played in five games as a true freshman in 2012, completing 19 of 40 passes for 233 yards while throwing one touchdown and one interception. He sat out the entire 2013 season as a redshirt.
He will speak to the media Tuesday for the first time after being named the starter.
