After every weekend of games, you always hear about the performances of stars like Leonard Fournette and Myles Garrett. But there are also the performances you don’t hear as much about, coming from some under-the-radar SEC players — the sleepers.
Who were the best of the Saturday Sleepers from Week 7? Take a look.
TRENT DOMINGUE, LSU
In a game that already had 8 touchdowns between both teams, Domingue came into the game against the Gators for a field goal attempt that would have given the Tigers a 3-point, fourth-quarter lead. But the trend of touchdowns continued as LSU faked the field goal attempt and let Domingue run the ball 16 yards into the end zone for what would end up being the game-winning touchdown with 10:40 left on the clock.
KERRYON JOHNSON, AUBURN
Johnson is a freshman runner for the Tigers, who scored his first career touchdown and rushed for a career-high 36 yards in Auburn’s 30-27 win over Kentucky. The Tigers starting running back Peyton Barber had himself a nice day, scoring twice, but Johnson’s 4 yards per carry was slightly higher. Johnson is a former four-star recruit that has good size and speed, which has already translated to early success in his collegiate career.
DAMORE’EA STRINGFELLOW, OLE MISS
After sitting out last season because of NCAA transfer rules, there was a lot of hype coming out of Oxford this offseason surrounding Stringfellow. Stringfellow’s 4 receptions and 72 yards in the Rebels’ disappointing 37-24 loss to Memphis were both season highs and his touchdown was his second of the season.
BRANDON BRYANT, MISSISSIPPI STATE
After falling behind early, Mississippi State exploded for 45 points against Louisiana Tech and Bryant capped off the scoring by taking his first career interception 73 yards to the house. Bryant is a freshman that has seen a decent amount of playing time for the Bulldogs this season and has a sack and an interception on the year.
DARRIUS SIMS, VANDERBILT
Despite being listed as a wide receiver, Sims led the Commodores in rushing against South Carolina with 104 yards on just 6 carries. He also added 3 receptions for 22 yards. Sims has proven to be a threat out of the backfield and split out wide for Vanderbilt’s offense and now has 227 total yards on the season.
MARSHALL MORGAN, GEORGIA
Georgia won its first game without scoring a touchdown in 20 years, and the Bulldogs have Morgan’s three field goals to thank for that. Although he missed a 26-yard field goal earlier in the fourth quarter that could have cost Georgia the game, Morgan hit a 34-yarder with under two minutes to go to lock up the Bulldogs’ victory over Missouri.
