After every weekend of games, you always hear about the performances of stars like Leonard Fournette and Myles Garrett. But there are also the performances you don’t hear as much about, coming from some under-the-radar SEC players — the sleepers.
Who were the best of the Saturday Sleepers from Week 12? Take a look.
TYRON JOHNSON, LSU
Johnson put the Tigers on the board for the first time against the Rebels with a 39-yard touchdown reception from LSU quarterback Brandon Harris, making it a 24-7 game just before halftime. Although the game ended in a 38-17 loss for LSU, it was the best game of Johnson’s freshman season. He ended with 5 receptions for 83 yards, both season-highs.
HUNTER HENRY, ARKANSAS
After Mississippi State jumped out to an early lead, the Razorbacks came roaring back and made it perhaps the most exciting college football game of the weekend. However, Arkansas still came up one point short and lost to the Bulldogs 51-50. Henry scored the second of his 2 receiving TDs on an 18-yard strike from quarterback Brandon Allen. Henry finished the game with 7 receptions for a season-high 129 yards and 2 touchdowns.
BO SCARBROUGH, ALABAMA
Against Charleston Southern, an FCS school, Alabama was able to get a lot of its reserves some valuable playing time. Freshman running back Bo Scarbrough took full advantage of his opportunity and ran for a season-high 69 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries. The 6-foot-2, 240-pound Tuscaloosa native is going to be a load to bring down at Alabama for years to come.
TAVEN BRYAN, FLORIDA
Bryan is a freshman and former four-star recruit that has seen the field sparingly during his first season in Gainesville, but against Florida Atlantic in Week 12, he got his biggest chance to make plays and made the most of it. Although he had just 1 tackle in the game, he made an impact play when he scooped up a fumble by FAU quarterback Jason Driskel and ran it back 48 yards to the 2-yard line, setting up a Gators touchdown two plays later.
ROC THOMAS, AUBURN
Auburn got into a shootout with the Idaho Vandals and finished with a season-high 56 points. Thomas capped off the scoring outburst for the Tigers with a 56-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter. It was the sophomore’s best game of the season, finishing with 78 yards on just 4 carries, part of a performance that saw Auburn go for 297 yards on the ground.
