Seven SEC teams were ranked in the Top 25 of ESPN’s updated Football Power Index released on Sunday. Three of those seven teams were included in the Top 10.
The rankings were updated after the first full Saturday of college football. In its preseason Top 25 FPI rankings, ESPN had six SEC teams listed.
Unsurprisingly, Alabama was the SEC’s highest-ranked team. But surprisingly, it was not No. 1. That spot belonged to Ohio State, which took down Indiana 49-21 on Thursday.
Here’s the updated look at how the SEC teams fared as of Sunday:
- 2. Alabama (defeated Florida State 24-7, previously ranked No. 2)
- 8. Auburn (defeated Georgia Southern 41-7, previously ranked No. 5)
- 10. LSU (defeated BYU 27-0, previously ranked No. 12)
- 13. Georgia (defeated Appalachian State 31-10, previously ranked No. 13)
- 20. Tennessee (plays Georgia Tech Monday, previously ranked No. 22)
- 22. Florida (lost to Michigan 33-17, previously ranked No. 17)
- 23. Mississippi State (defeated Charleston Southern 49-0, previously unranked)
South Carolina and Texas A&M are lurking just outside the Top 25.
