Jameis Winston is returning from his three-game suspension due to violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy, and he had an interesting opening statement during his first media appearance on Thursday.

“Did you miss me?”

Yikes, I’m not sure he watched the Buccaneers’ first three games this season, so let me fill him in.

Tampa Bay’s backup quarterback, 35-year old Ryan Fitzpatrick, became the first player in NFL history to throw for at least 400 yards in three consecutive games.

In Week 1, the Bucs took down the New Orleans Saints, a game in which Fitzpatrick racked up 417 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. In Week 2, Tampa Bay defeated the Philadelphia Eagles, the reigning Super Bowl Champions, and Fitzpatrick threw for another 400 yards and four touchdowns.

The Bucs then dropped a close Monday night bout with the Pittsburgh Steelers, 30-27, but “Fitzmagic” still went for 411 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions.

So to answer your question, Jameis, the answer from fans is probably a “no.”

Check out some of these reactions from Twitter users when they heard about Winston’s opening remarks:

The Buccaneers have posted just one winning season in the three years Winston has been under center, and a decision on his future should be made this year. Tampa Bay exercised Winston’s fifth-year option this past offseason, but the team could cut ties with him next summer and with that, save the $21 million he is due.

Tampa Bay could end up staying with Winston as their QB for the future, but when you’re coming back from a suspension when the franchise has been reignited by another player at the same position, “did you miss me?” is not what you should ask the media the first time you step to the podium.
