Urban Meyer retiring: Media members react to Ohio State’s head coach stepping down
By SDS Staff

Urban Meyer has decided to step down at Ohio State. He’s retiring per multiple reports citing releases from the university.
A 2:00 p.m. press conference has been scheduled.
Offensive coordinator Ryan Day will take over the head coaching job following the Buckeyes’ Rose Bowl game against Washington.
Meyer’s health has certainly come into question this season as a cyst in his brain has grown and has caused regular headaches. Meyer often looked in anguish on the sidelines, not to mention the tumultuous season in Columbus that included a three-game suspension.
Following the bombshell news, media members reacted:
As predicted.
Urban cost Ohio State a shot at the @CFBPlayoff this year with his distractions.
This is the best thing for the future of the Buckeyes program. https://t.co/A0moyzICz3

Jim Tressel: seven #B1G titles, 1 NC, 2 NC runner ups.
Ohio State was great before Meyer, will be great after him. Stop with this nonsense that he “elevated the program.”

Urban Meyer called Ryan Day "elite" and sees the 39-year-old as a superstar in coaching. Day had head-coaching opportunities both last year and this year, but it became increasingly likely in recent weeks that he would wait out Meyer and likely become… https://t.co/TR0TT3fHFb

Urban Meyer: Burned out after six years at Florida, retired after seven years at Ohio State. I can’t speak to how his health issues impacted his ability to do the job, but being prone to emotional extremes makes it tough to sustain in this business.
