Vanderbilt fans celebrated their program-defining win over Alabama appropriately, as the Commodore faithful tore down the goal posts at FirstBank Stadium and paraded them through the streets of Broadway following their team’s 40-35 win over No. 1 Alabama on Saturday.
The end result of that parade saw the 35-foot tall uprights end up in the Cumberland River, as Vandy fans joyously disposed of their stadium’s property in celebration.
Of course, the University of Vanderbilt did want their goal posts back, and thus the Nashville Fire Department made an effort to recover them late in the evening. The firefighters were successful in their endeavor, meaning that the goal posts will be safely returned to the University to be preserved throughout history.
Or, perhaps leadership will elect to allow the fans to own a piece of Commodore history.

This was Vanderbilt’s first win over Alabama since 1984, and it was the program’s first win over an AP Top 5 team ever.
Vanderbilt next ventures to Lexington to take on Kentucky on Saturday night.
