Vanderbilt linebacker, former 4-star recruit, reportedly enters transfer portal
Former Vanderbilt linebacker Daniel Martin officially entered the transfer portal Friday. The news was first reported by 247Sports.
Martin, along with fellow freshman Maurice Edwards, was dismissed from the program 4 days following the Commodores’ season-opening win against Hawaii. Vanderbilt coach Clark Lea said in a statement that a “strong ecosystem will undoubtedly strengthen our program’s performance on and off the field.”
Lea added more context on the dismissal of the 2 players during his weekly SEC coaches teleconference Tuesday afternoon.
“I’m not going to go more in-depth than what was said in the statement. … With respect to what it means moving forward, this program is going to be fine,” Lea said. “We’re not defined by any one person in the program. … We have a lot of guys in the locker room that we lean upon who are going to step into roles moving forward. We’re not going to bat an eye.”
A former 4-star commit out of Marietta (Ga.), Martin held offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Tennessee, and others. He was listed as the No. 23 linebacker recruit in the nation by the 247Sports Composite.
Martin committed to play for the Commodores over Oregon and Florida State. He also participated in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
