Vanderbilt-Wake Forest game delay stretches beyond an hour

The Vanderbilt-Wake Forest game was in a weather delay of more than an hour after the game kicked off at 11 a.m. ET in Winston-Salem.

Referee Lee Hendrick made an announcement on the field with 12:59 remaining in the first quarter and said, “Lightning has been reported within 8 miles of the stadium. Teams will report to their locker room and the game will be suspended at this time.”

At the time of the delay, Wake Forest just made an interception and had momentum with the ball at the Vanderbilt at the 6-yard line on 3rd and goal.

Vanderbilt is off to a strong start and is looking for the Commodores’ first 3-0 start since 2017, and before that it came in 2011. Wake Forest won last year’s meeting 45-25 on the road, and Dave Clawson will look to continue Wake Forest’s strong play against SEC teams, where he is 3-0. That includes a Belk Bowl win against Texas A&M and Gasparilla Bowl win against Missouri.

Although fans are trickling back in, we still don’t have an updated start time and the teams are not back on the field, though a handful of what look to be event/facility staffers are out on the sideline
