While many teams are celebrating Senior Day on Saturday, South Carolina State is giving a whole new meaning to the term.
Against Savannah State on Saturday, the Bulldogs handed off to 55-year-old RB Joe Thomas Sr., who ran for three yards.
With the carry, Thomas became the oldest Division I college football player ever to see the field.
Interestingly enough, Thomas’s son, Joe Thomas Jr., is a linebacker with the Green Bay Packers.
It’s safe to say Joe Jr. was watching his dad’s record-setting carry. He told ESPN that he was proud of his father for going back to college and getting a degree:
“It’s been crazy for me,” Joe Jr. said. “I never thought you’d see a 55-year-old running back. I’m just proud of him. He made his mind up to do something and stuck to it.”
