It will likely go down as one of the most memorable plays in Arkansas football history.
Last Saturday, the Razorbacks trailed Ole Miss 52-45 in overtime, and faced fourth-and-25 at the Rebels’ 40-yard line. They needed to gain 25 yards or the game would be over. Tight end Hunter Henry caught a pass from Brandon Allen well short of the first down, and Ole Miss defenders Tony Bridges and Trae Elston converged to make a potential game-ending tackle.
Out of desperation, Henry blindly lateraled the ball backwards, hoping a teammate would get it and find a way to get a first down. And that is exactly what happened. The ball bounced on the turf near Arkansas running back Alex Collins, who picked it up and raced 29 yards for a first down. Two plays later, the Razorbacks scored a touchdown, then won the game 53-52 on Allen’s two-point conversion run.
The play has gotten the nickname “Swine Intervention” among Razorbacks fans.
Earlier this week, Arkansas’ golf team performed a unique reenactment of the play.
