It’s been quite the season opener for Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers.
Through one half of play, Newton has thrown for one touchdown and rushed for another. In the process, the former Auburn graduate has broken two NFL records.

Newton’s rushing touchdown makes him the NFL’s all-time leader in rushing touchdowns for a quarterback — surpassing former San Francisco 49ers great Steve Young. It took Young 169 games to reach 43 rushing touchdowns, and has taken Newton 79 games to break the record.

In addition, Newton also broke another record set by Young — having the most games (32) in which he’s thrown and run for a touchdown in the same contest.
In only the beginning of his sixth season, there’s no telling what the new record will look like once Newton decides to hang up his cleats.
